We must do better against malaria

A recent article in the Guardian by the current President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, called on the African heads of state to continue to take the lead in the fight against malaria in Africa. President Kikwete noted the great success that has been achieved on the African continent, especially in southern Africa, over the last decade: at least 10 countries in Africa are reporting significant decreases in malaria morbidity and mortality. However, President Kikwete acknowledges that challenges remain, and calls on all stakeholders to continue to work together to end all preventable malaria deaths by the end of 2010 and assist Africa in its ultimate goal of elimination.
